Updated : May 9, 2026

The magic of Lagaan is set to return to the big screen. Two and a half decades after they made cinematic history, Aamir Khan and director Ashutosh Gowariker are teaming up for another massive project. This time, they are bringing the life of cricket legend Lala Amarnath to theaters in a gripping period drama.

The upcoming film goes beyond just the game of cricket. It is set during the difficult times of the India and Pakistan partition in 1947, bringing a deep emotional core to the sports biopic. The script is almost locked, and brilliant minds like Rajkumar Hirani and Abhijat Joshi have even given their creative input to help perfect the story.

Currently, the makers are hunting for another strong actor to play a key role alongside Aamir as Lala Amarnath's best friend. If everything goes as planned, the cameras will start rolling by September 2026. This highly anticipated biopic will kick off a very busy schedule for Aamir, who also has a startup film and the 3 Idiots sequel lined up next.

Fans are already thrilled to see if this iconic actor-director duo can deliver another unforgettable masterpiece.
